Julio Olalla is a Chilean-born coach, educator, and founder of Newfield Network, a pioneering organization in the field of ontological coaching. Trained originally as a lawyer and government official, Olalla left Chile during the military dictatorship and later settled in the United States, where he developed a global practice in leadership development and transformational coaching.
Influenced by the work of Dr. Humberto Maturana, Olalla helped bring the principles of ontology of language into coaching. He focuses on how language, emotions, and body shape human experience and action—not just what we know, but how we live and relate.
Olalla’s work intersects with themes in Communicative Action, a theory developed by Jürgen Habermas. Like Habermas, Olalla emphasizes the importance of dialogue in creating shared meaning and mutual understanding. In his coaching, communication is not just exchange—it’s a generative act that shapes identity, relationships, and possibilities for action.
His teachings invite individuals and leaders to shift from problem-solving to transformation, by examining how they speak, listen, interpret, and show up in the world. Olalla has trained thousands of coaches across the Americas and Europe, and his influence continues to shape the global coaching profession.
