How to be a Good Guest

For many of us, it has been a while since we have been a dinner guest at someone’s home.

We don’t intend to tell ou how to behave, though here are a few pointers to keep in mind.

  • RSVP promptly: Let the host know if you’re planning to attend or not as soon as possible, so they can plan accordingly.
  • Be on time: Try to arrive at the time specified by the host. If you’re running late, let them know as soon as possible.
  • Offer to help: Ask the host if there’s anything you can do to help with the meal preparation or setting the table.
  • Be respectful: Be mindful of the house rules and the host’s preferences, For instance, removing your shoes if that is their custom.
  • Avoid controversial topics and don’t overindulge in alcoholic beverages.
  • Participate in conversation: Engage in friendly conversation with your fellow guests and the host. Ask questions, share stories, and listen actively.
  • Clean up after yourself: Offer to help with the clean-up, and make sure to leave the space as tidy as possible.
  • Say thank you: Show your gratitude to the host for their hospitality and for inviting you to their home.

Remember, being a good dinner guest is not only about enjoying the meal, but also about showing respect and appreciation for the host and their efforts. By following these simple guidelines, you can make sure that everyone has a pleasant and memorable experience.
